This TAMARIND CHUTNEY is sweet and tart with little kick!
Pair this with your snacks, dinner or just slather it on anything that needs a little extra burst of flav! Like a veggie sando or a Chaat Pop.
Tamarind Chutney
Ingredients
- ½ cup pitted dates
- 1 ½ cup hot water
- ¼ cup tamarind purée or half the amount tamarind paste, which is less watery and more concentrated in flavor
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 small knob ginger
- ¼ to ½ teaspoon hot chili powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Soak the dates in hot water for 20 minutes until completely soft.
- In a blender, add the dates and soaking liquid, tamarind, cumin, ginger, chili and salt.
- Blend until totally smooth.
- Pour into a small saucepan and simmer until thickened and reduced to about half (more or less depending on preferred concentration).
- Allow to cool and serve as an accompaniment to anything you wish!
- Store for a week in the fridge.
