I don’t know about you, but 2022 has been a little bit more 2020-too than I’d like. To help support us through this or even just celebrate the goodness that still exists in our world, I recommend reaching for the maca. It’s an energizing (step aside caffeine-laden drinks!) and subtly caramely addition to the foods it’s added to. And today, we are adding it to cocoa to make a delightful drink — MACA COCOA!
Adding maca to hot cocoa adds a little something to the flavor and does wonders for mood enhancement. And then add a little date syrup to sweeten the deal — and boom! Sweet energy booster in the bag, er, cup.
Btw, in case you were wondering. I am not a doctor and never will claim to be a health expert. My mood and energy improvement reports are purely anecdotal, and I stand by my experience! Maca cocoa is where it’s at, bebe.
If you’re looking to liven up your drink selections or find a coffee alternative that’s still going to bring the energy, I highly recommend giving this a try.
Hot Maca Cocoa
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon cacao powder
- 1 teaspoon maca powder
- 1 dash of cinnamon powder
- 1-2 tablespoons boiling water
- 1-2 teaspoons date syrup (or maple syrup), depending on your preference for sweetness
- 1 cup oat milk (or milk of choice — but oat milk's foamability is superb!)
Instructions
- In your cocoa mug, combine cacao, maca and cinnamon
- Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of boiling hot water and mix until there are no lumps
- Add date syrup to the cocoa concoction and stir to combine. Add more syrup if you prefer a sweeter drink experience.
- In the microwave or in a small sauce pan, bring oat milk to a boil. To foam the milk, use a frother or carefully pour back and forth between two mugs.
- Add hot milk to the cocoa cup, stir and enjoy!
