One of the best ways to embrace the summer is by drinking lemonade! But as the season emerges, I want to propose enjoying this quintessential summer drink with a twist! Frozen Strawberry Lemonade!!
It’s fresh, it’s tart, it’s sweet… it’s SUMMER!! And there is no better time to infused strawberries in everything (like this cheesecake I shared recently) than when they’re at their peak. I live in the Pacific NW and we have some of the best strawbs in all the land. I like to try and go strawberry picking at the start of the summer so we can gather up some of nature’s candy ourselves.
Whether you pick them yourselves, get them from a fruit stand or farmer’s market, or grab them from your local grocery store — I recommend stocking up on a few lemons and making this refreshing beverage for you and those you love. It’ll keep you cool and make you drool.
PLUS!! This lemonade is jam-packed (get it? jam? strawberries???) with vitamin C! Did you even know that strawberries are loaded with more vitamin C than oranges? So basically this lemonade is giving you a dose of flavor and vitamins.
The Method
Once you get your strawberries, wash and dry them, and pop ’em in the freezer. This is what will give your frozen strawberry lemonade that frosty finish! From there, you just need to prepare a simple lemonade. I like to use pure maple syrup. Maple has a lower glycemic index and more nutritional benefits than refined cane sugar. I’d start small when it comes to sweetening your lemonade though. Once you start blending it with your frozen strawberries (I recommend a high speed blender), you may find those red gems lend more than enough sweetness to the mix.
This drink can also be made with basil or mint infusions (see the notes in the recipe for more about that). Another perk of this recipe is that since the berries are frozen, you can enjoy this ALL SUMMER LONG!!
